We have to be able to prove the identity of our clients. This is necessary even if we have acted for you before or if you are known personally to a member of staff.
This means that you must bring with you either:
(i) Your passport
(ii) Your photo driving licence
(iii) Some other photographic form of identity
AND
Two documents to establish your address such as
(i) A utility bill
(ii) A Council Tax statement
(iii) A bank statement showing your address
You must provide these items regardless of how your case is being funded.
If you wish to be assessed for legal aid then you must bring to your first appointment the following:
If you are employed
(i) Your last months pay slip if you are paid monthly
(ii) Your last four weeks pay slips if you are paid weekly
AND
(i) If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit the Notice of Award
(ii) If you receive Child Benefit proof of payment
If you are not employed
(i) Written proof of the welfare benefits that you receive together with evidence of any other income from all sources in the four weeks prior to the date of your first appointment
We are happy to provide legal advice under the Legal Aid Scheme. However, you must bring with you the documents to enable us to record that you are financially entitled to legal aid. We can not advise you at public expense until you do so.
