The Home Office have been ordered by the High Court to Compensate the female victims of sex trafficking after their children had to hear their experiences due no childcare being provided during appointments.

Mr Justice Kerr found that the support system in place for victims of sex-trafficking discriminates against those who are claiming asylum and the Home Office admitted to the court they treated the group differently.

Victims of trafficking receive a benefit to use to cover childcare during appointments relating to their case however, this is not available to those who receive asylum support. Such appointments involve disclosing graphic details of their ordeal which they do not want their children to hear.

The judge found the treatment of the claimants ‘egregious’ and the Home Secretary has stated this ruling will lead to the government paying an additional £5 million a year.
