The Jesus and Mary Chain, a Scottish rock band popular in the 1980’s and 1990’s are to sue Warner Music Group for an estimated £1.77 million for copyright infringement. This was after Warner refused to terminate the ownership of five of the band’s albums.

The lawsuit has been filed in California under section 203 of The US Copyright Act of 1976. This legislation allows copyright holders to revert rights 35 years after the work is published. Their debut album was published in 1985, 36 years ago.
