Mr Justice Cohen of the High Court has resisted media requests to publish the judgement made on the divorce of Lady Hiroko Barclay and Sir Frederick Barclay, the billionaire owner of the Telegraph newspaper.

The divorce was estimated to be worth £100 million and Barclay was ordered to pay almost all of his ex-wives £1.8 million legal fees. It is believed Barclay acted in inappropriately during litigation and did not comply with court orders. The judge noted that ‘He is a public figure who should have been aware of the potential consequences of disobedience of court orders and his behaviour in the proceedings should not be allowed to pass completely under the radar’ .  Lady Barclay had petitioned for divorce on the grounds of unreasonable behaviour but this ruling means the findings of the court will remain out of public knowledge.
