The Prime Minister will today hold the first meeting of the new National Security Council and say that he is to introduce a series of measures designed to confront “poisonous Islamist extremist ideology”. He will say that Britain has been too tolerant, and that the new laws will mean powerful banning orders for extremist organisations which “undermine democracy” or give “hate speeches”, even if they do not break the law. He has also vowed to shut down mosques which shelter fanatics. In addition, new Business Secretary Sajid Javid yesterday vowed to push through laws to crack down on strikes. Under new laws, 40% of members would have to approve a strike, and only if 50% or more vote.
