The adoptive parents of Tony Hudgell, a child who was so severely abused by his birth parents that he had to have both legs amputated have successfully campaigned for longer sentences for those who abuse children.

The new plans will increase the maximum jail sentence for those who cause or allow a child’s death from 14 years to life imprisonment.

Sentences are also set to go up from 10 to 14 years for people who cause serious harm to children.
