Right to work in UK – Checks to begin from 1st July

The impact of Brexit on the right to work in the UK will be visible from the 1st July when EU Settlement Scheme to formalise the status of EU workers closes to most applications on the 30th June.

This means that EU citizens will no longer be able to rely on their European passport or ID card as proof that they have a right to work in the UK and will now need to rely on their immigrations status.

A duty will then shift to employers to check the eligibility of workers and should the employer be found to have an individual that is or becomes an illegal worker they can be fined up to £20,000 per illegal worker.
