Landmark guidelines on sentencing for modern slavery offences have been published which may lead to tougher punishments being handed down as it emerged that courts may have been inconsistent in their approach.
The new guidelines will come into effect from 1st October 2021 and give Judges and magistrates guidelines as to sentencing under the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
The offences include slavery, forced labour, human trafficking or an offence committed to facilitate human trafficking.
