The French government are attempting to prevent the city of London from securing a deal until Boris Johnson grants European fisherman greater rights in British waters.

The deal was attempt for London to gain access to the EU’s single market but it appears any plans are shelved until the prime minister makes concessions in the fishing industry.

This follows tensions in the channel after French fishing boats blocked the port of Jersey in protest at the new fishing regulations and the UK sent in navy ships in response.
