Climate activists have taken Norway to the European Court of Human Rights over the granting of 10 licenses to companies to drill for oil. Norway is Europe’s second biggest producer of oil and produces on average four million barrels of oil a day.

The activists have argued the government’s action are contrary to Article 112 of Norway’s constitution, which guarantees the right to a healthy environment. This argument has been rejected three times already within the Norwegian Court system.
